Community service is an integral part of the educational experience at Pan American International School. Community service does not only help the recipient of the service or society at large, it can also benefit students by giving them a sense of responsibility, pride and a more well-rounded world-view.
On March 16, 2016, students from PAIS spent their Saturday performing community service for Operacion Sonrisa (Operation Smile) at the Central Military Hospital in Barrio Sajonia, Asuncion. Operation Sonrisa is a charitable organization which provides medical treatment to children and adults with facial deformities such as cleft lip and palate. The students, all from grades 9 through 12, provided a helping hand to the medical staff by providing breakfast and lunch, playing with smaller children and giving encouragement to patients and their families. The students’ efforts were very well received by the staff at Operation Sonrisa, who thanked them and PAIS for the contribution they made.
We at Pan American International School would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all of the parents who donated time and food items to enable our students to participate. We are also very proud of all of the students who lent their support to this worth-while charitable cause. They have helped make a positive difference in the lives of total strangers and have upheld brilliantly the values and principles of Pan American International School.
